Back in January of 2008, I made the decision, to once again get serious about my Christian faith. I saw myself as a pseudo-Christian. An individual that announces to the world, and to himself, “I’m saved by the blood of Jesus Christ. Hallelujah, Praise the Lord… I’m going to go watch TV!” I thought to myself, that there has to be something practical that I can do every day that would be beneficial to my walk, and to help me grow in my knowledge of the Christian faith. On Monday, January 21, I decided to discipline myself, by reading my Bible every day, for 30 minutes. I recorded my progress on a spreadsheet, for the purpose of knowing where I was up to, and for reflecting on what I had done over the weeks and months. It has been very beneficial for me, and has helped me to understand more and more about the content of the Biblical story. Prior to starting this new discipline, I prayed that this wouldn’t turn into a pride-based ritual; something that I can pervert, and to switch the focus onto myself. This hasn’t become a problem so far. I had tried other devotional methods, but have given up on them very early on. What I’ve been doing for the last 5 months is very easy to continue, because it is very simple. I encourage anyone that reads this, to give it a go. Record what you read every day into a spreadsheet, and document your progress, for example: Day 10 – Exodus 11-18. It’s a great form of discipline, and it keeps your Bible from gathering dust!

I hope this has been inspiring. If you decide to give it a try, let me know.

Talk to you soon,

Jared
